“What would my practice be worth if I decided to sell it?”
We’re sure you’ve asked yourself this question at some stage. Whether you're considering selling, planning for retirement, or simply assessing your financial position to make better decisions, having an understanding of your practices' potential value is a great place to start.
Welcome to the Optometry Practice Valuation Calculator - a straightforward tool tailored specifically for practice owners who want to understand what their practice may be worth.
Before progressing, please be aware that there is no exact science to a valuation. Ultimately the market will decide the value, but it is important you have a place to start.
For the best experience, please ensure you are using a desktop or laptop device.

Based on your inputs for the last 3 financial years, your adjusted net profit for each year is shown below. These figures (also referred to as 'normalised profit') will be used in the calculation of your practice value at the next step.

Your estimated practice value has now been calculated by applying a market-based 'multiplier' to your adjusted net profit. This estimate excludes stock and any fixtures and equipment that may hold value.
Your starting multiplier is set at a base of 2.5 - you can change this using the slider below, to select one more suited to your practice description.
This Practice Value Calculator provides general, illustrative estimates only and does not constitute financial, legal, tax, or valuation advice. Results depend on the information you enter and simplified assumptions. For legal, tax or sale purposes, a professionally prepared valuation is essential.

It’s fantastic to be a part of an organisation run solely for the benefit of its members, and no one else. I truly believe that independent optometry is the best avenue for fulfilling honest patient care, and ProVision champions that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does ProVision see the numbers I enter or my result?
No. The Practice Value Calculator runs entirely in your browser. ProVision cannot see or store any of the figures you enter – they remain private to you.
Is this a formal valuation?
No. It provides an indicative estimate only, based on the figures you enter.
What figures do I need to enter?
Three years of P&L data: total revenue, COGS, expenses, add-backs, and owner salary.
What is ‘adjusted net profit’?
Also referred to as ‘normalised profit’, this demonstrates what a buyer could realistically expect to earn from the practice once it’s running under typical conditions by adjusting income and expenses that are not directly related to the business.
What is an add-back?
A non-recurring or discretionary expense (such as personal car costs or one-off legal fees) that can be added back to reflect true earnings.
What is a multiplier?
A number that’s applied to a business’s adjusted earnings or revenue to determine its goodwill. In this calculator, you can select from 2.0x up to 3.5x, which are typical for the independent optometric industry.
Why do I need to input 3 years of financials?
Three years of financials will provide you, and eventually a partner or buyer, with a clearer understanding of annual changes, trends and ultimately an average goodwill estimate based on your practice performance.
